Seven Down on a Non-Conference Saturday

Seven NCAAF plays are locked for today, and the shape of the card tells you plenty about what kind of Saturday this is. Six of the seven listed here are moneylines, which is what happens when the schedule fills up with early-season buy games and cross-division scheduling that nobody at either athletic department pretends is competitive balance.

Coastal Carolina at West Virginia, Ohio at Nebraska, Oregon State at Houston, Lafayette at UConn, East Carolina at Alabama, Youngstown State at Kentucky. The pattern is not subtle. These are visits, not road trips, and the market has priced them accordingly.

That is exactly why the moneyline is the honest expression of the opinion in a lot of these spots. Spreads in games like these get pushed around by garbage-time backups and coaches who empty the bench once the outcome is settled. Head coaches with a conference opener on the horizon are not going to leave starters in the fourth quarter to satisfy anybody's number. The moneyline does not care about that.
